What is the CFI Accelerated Course? and why should you consider instructing?
The accelerated CFI course runs once a month for two weeks and is taught in a classroom environment for all of the ground training and incorporates the one-on-one flight training into the two week period. The benefit is cost and time-frame to accomplish a valuable tool for pilots to build time while earning a paycheck.
Completing school and getting all of your ratings is just the start of becoming an Airline Pilot.
As you complete your training you will have a great deal of piloting knowledge and very little experience…. Approximately 250 hours. The FAA and the airlines require 1000 – 1500 hours to acquire your ATP Rating (Airline Transport Pilot) and hiring on new pilots. Which brings us to the big question:
how do I get to the airlines? The good news is there are many different paths you can follow, and start earning a salary while working toward your goal.
How much do I get paid as a CFI?
Upon completion of a CFI rating, you can flight instruct to build time. Flight Instructors get paid between $25-$35 per hour depending on the level of CFI.
Time building as a CFI is a great way to hone your skills, pass your knowledge onto aspiring pilots and earn some money along the way. By getting the CFII (Instrument Instructor) and MEI (Multi-engine Instructor) you can boost your hourly pay to the higher end of the scale.
Program Training Breakdown and Time Allocation
JA Flight Training - 2 Weeks Accelerated CFIA Academy
Price: $6740.00
4% processing fee for using credit cards.
$1000 non-refundable deposit due at registration, plus $390 registration materials purchased per class. Remaining balance due on start date of Academy. This fee if non-refundable except in the event of aircraft equipment issues which cause the program to be delayed more than one week from the planned start date. Note: any unused funds are non-refundable. However, these funds can be used for future use such as for the check ride.
Prerequisites
- Current FAA Commercial Pilot with Instrument Rating
- Valid FAA 3rd Class Medical
- CFI-A FOI Written Exam Completed
- CFI-A Online Training Course Completed (access give upon registration)
Preparation
As an accelerated course, you are expected to arrive fully prepared. You must have both FIA and FOI* written test as well as King School Training completed. You are expected to arrive with lesson plans, there are many options available online for purchase or you may create these yourself. You must also be familiar with the Flight Instructor ACS.
* The FOI written test requires an endorsement. Upon completion of the King School training you will receive a written test endorsement from King Schools.
Google Classroom
Once you have registered, you will be given access to the Google classroom. In this, you will see several resources to help you study and prepare. You may use these resources as well as others you may find online to aid in preparation.
Basic Course Outline
CFI-A: First 2 weeks (Monday-Saturday: 10 Days of Classroom. Saturdays & Sundays reserved for make-up flights, self-study and lesson prep) Students have access to classroom/conference room for studying and prep all 14 days.
- 50 Hours of Ground Instruction
- 10 Hours Dual Flight Instruction in Cessna 172 S, N or M model. (Aircraft model will be chosen at JA’s discretion).
- Spin Endorsement Included if Needed.
- 5 Hours Pre & Post Flight Instruction Briefings
Any additional aircraft , instructor or simulator time needed will be billed at the following rates:
- Aircraft ................ $205.00 per hour
- Instructor............. $70.00 per hour
- Simulator .............$40.00 per hour
Accelerated CFI Course Schedule
This course is scheduled for two consecutive weeks, Monday through Friday from approximately 7am until 2:00pm, Saturday and Sunday are reserved for weather or mechanical delays. Upon receipt of the registration fee, JA Flight Training will reach out to a local DPE to schedule a check ride for the week following course completion. The actual date of the check ride will be dependent on DPE availability. The approximate cost of your check ride is $1500.00. This will vary depending on DPE. The cost of the DPE is not included the registration fee and is the responsibility of the student.
